There may be two reasons why people have availability bias approach as you narrated above.
1. Common people who are not professional investors don’t have availability of information compre to professional.
2. In matter of finance these investors don’t put trust on professionals as lack of confidence. May be common people have notion that financial planning are self centric and highly profit motive or they are expensive. Specially small investors have strong notion that financial planners are in reach for big investors only.
3. In india we are trained or right way I will say nurtured, to take decisions based on emotions with lack of rationality -see our voting patters. Our decisions are influenced by strong sentiments.
4. In India, in case of middle class or higher middle class group, they are first or second generation which have achieved some financial strength in thier family tree. It makes them conservative and risk aversion group.

Dear sir now it comes your job or financial planners role to break all these notions and biases. We have to develop a more scientific and ration mindsets in all speare of life. It is not possible, one will be rational in financial decision and irrational in other aspects of life.
